Roanna’s trainee solicitor Q&A

Here’s what Roanna said about her time training to become a solicitor with GloverPriest.

Question 01

What were your first few weeks like as a trainee at the firm?

“The first few weeks were busy but very welcoming. I was given meaningful tasks early on, which helped me feel part of the team quickly. There was a good balance between being trusted with responsibility and having appropriate supervision.”

Question 02

How does the firm balance learning with real, hands-on legal work?

“The firm strikes a good balance by involving trainees directly in live matters when ensuring supervisors review work and provide feedback. You are encouraged to take ownership, but there is always oversight and guidance when needed.”

Question 03

How comfortable do you feel asking questions or admitting when you don’t know something?

“Very comfortable. There’s an understanding that trainees are here to learn. Asking questions is encouraged, and it’s seen as part of professional development rather than a weakness.”

Having the right support made all the difference during Roanna’s early weeks. Under the supervision of Nicholas Bennett and with guidance from colleagues, she was able to contribute to live Private Client matters. This balance of responsibility and support at GloverPriest helps trainees build confidence and develop in their careers.

Question 04

What’s one thing you really value about working here?

“I value the people I work with most. The team is approachable, supportive and genuinely collaborative, which makes a real difference day to day. Having colleagues who are willing to share their knowledge and offer guidance creates an environment where you feel supported but also encouraged to grow independently.”

Question 05

How do you feel your confidence has changed since starting your training contract?

“My confidence has grown considerably. Exposure to clients, responsibility for tasks, and constructive feedback have helped me develop both technically and professionally.”
